The Blue Moon Crew is seeking a few individuals who believe it is best for a ship to be owned by its crew. The goal of the organization is to acquire a ship, which shall be named the Blue Moon, and keep it running. It is intended to be a rather small organization, just enough people to operate one ship. This size should allow the crew to know each other and make each person's role significant.
The Crew may use their ship for a variety of endeavors that might provide many opportunities for both adventure and profit. However, this is a civilian organization conducting a legitimate business. As such, it is not suitable for those seeking military or mercenary operations, nor those attracted to any sort of criminal activities, such as piracy.
If you apply, please express your commitment to being an active member of our ship's crew. While we want to establish good relationships with other organizations and individuals, membership in this organization will be limited to the actual crew of the Blue Moon.
One thousand is a big number. No organization in Dual Universe has that many members yet, but I am sure some of them expect they will. There will probably be quite a celebration when the first organization reaches that milestone.
The Blue Moon Crew has a different philosophy--start small, stay small. We have no desire to ever grow beyond a handful of members. We want to be the kind of organization where everyone knows each other and everyone makes a difference.
We also think our customers will benefit from our small size. They will not be dealing with some disinterested agents who never leave their offices, but with the people who live and work on the ship. Meeting the people we serve personally will certainly motivate us to do our best.
One thousand is also the number of words a picture is said to be worth. Our older posts often included pictures of concept art for the Blue Moon. We now have a working prototype of the ship, but the NDA does not allow us to share any pictures of it. However, if you have access to pre-alpha testing, we invite you to come aboard and see it for yourself. Remember this is a prototype, so the design is likely to change, but whether you are a potential customer, a potential crew member or just an interested visitor, we would be happy to give you a tour of the ship and perhaps take you for a little flight. A sanctuary is a safe place in a dangerous world, but that is not the word's only meaning. Originally, it referred to a holy place. During the Middle Ages, it became the custom for people in peril to seek refuge in churches and so the word acquired that association. Victor Hugo depicted this in his famous story when the hunchback, Quasimodo, carried Esmeralda into the cathedral of Notre Dame, crying out, "Sanctuary!"
Recently, we have heard of a new type of sanctuary, an entire moon where it is said everyone will be safe from any attack. We are naturally skeptical of such utopian tales, but the information is from a source that has been usually reliable. Unfortunately, that source also reports this moon is particularly poor in resources. It is essentially nothing more than a huge ball of dirt.
The Blue Moon Crew sees this as an excellent opportunity to be of service to our fellow Noveans. The goods that the residents of this moon want or the materials to make them will need to come from elsewhere. Many people living there may be understandably reluctant to leave the security of their sanctuary, but the Crew is prepared to venture forth to acquire the items they desire. While there are some who might exploit this situation and charge the inhabitants of such a remote region exorbitant prices, we will as always make our services as affordable as possible.
Members of the Blue Moon Crew have been participating in pre-alpha testing. We would like to tell you what we have done and how it affects our ship, but we are under an non-disclosure agreement. What we can tell is our goal is the same as ever, to be the crew of an independent ship dedicated to providing the best trade and transport services.
When the time comes that you need those services, we hope you will think of us. And if you have that dedication yourself, consider joining our crew. There still are a couple positions open for the right people.
The Merrimac Ferry was an unusual vessel. The boat was connected to each shore by cables and it used these to pull itself back and forth. This meant it could only go from one side of the river to the other, but being a ferry, that is all it had to do.
Of course, the Blue Moon will have much more freedom and be able to go much farther than that. The void is vast and traveling through it will take a considerable amount of time. The best estimate we have is a trip between planets will last a couple days, while reaching another star will take a few weeks.
Those are actually incredibly short times for such huge distances, but there are still some people who do not believe they should be that long. Perhaps their expectations have been distorted from the way void travel is usually depicted in stories. To make a show that can be viewed in an hour or two, it is often necessary to compress time. This can make a trip through the void seem more like a ride on a ferry.
It will be a challenge to make our ship a comfortable and interesting place to spend that much time aboard, but it is a challenge we are eager to accept. Whether you are a member of the crew or a passenger who happens to accompany us, you can expect those long journeys on the Blue Moon to be enjoyable. Just don't believe in ferry tales.
Trade is often beneficial to everyone involved. However, unless they want to limit themselves to tossing goods across the border, it means an organization must allow outsiders into their territory. Some organizations may be reluctant to open their territory to everyone without restriction, so the Blue Moon Crew would like to introduce a concept we call the transient license for trade and transport.
We are not talking about a trade organization or either organization becoming a member of the other. The license is simply an agreement between two organizations that allows one to conduct a trade and transport business in territory that belongs to the other. Since this is a transient license, their presence for that business would only be temporary.
Both to illustrate our idea and to serve as a first step toward what we hope will become a common practice, the Blue Moon Crew proposes the following agreement to any organization that would like to grant us such a license. Of course, we are willing to consider any modifications to the terms of this agreement that the licensing organization suggests. For now these will only be verbal agreements, but we hope to use the RDMS as much as possible to implement them when it becomes available.

---Transient License for Trade and Transport---
This is an agreement between the Blue Moon Crew (BMC) and the __________ organization (ORG).
The ORG agrees to allow the BMC, their ship and any support vehicles to enter and travel through their territory.
The ORG agrees that none of their members will attack any member of the BMC, nor will they damage or steal their property or any goods they are transporting.
The ORG agrees to allow the BMC to sell goods and provide transport services to members of the ORG and any other individuals permitted in the ORG's territory. This does not obligate the BMC to provide any specific goods or services.
The ORG agrees to allow the BMC to purchase goods or services offered by members of the ORG and any other individuals permitted in the ORG's territory. This does not obligate the ORG to provide any specific goods or services.
The ORG agrees to allow the BMC to leave their territory whenever the BMC chooses to.
The BMC agrees to remain in those areas of ORG's territory that the ORG designates as accessible and stay out of those areas the ORG designates as restricted. The ORG must inform the BMC of these designations before the BMC enters the ORG's territory.
The BMC agrees its members will not attack any members of the ORG or any other individuals the ORG permits in their territory, nor will the BMC members damage or steal their property or any goods they are transporting.
The BMC agrees to pay any fees the ORG has established for entering, travelling through or remaining in their territory, for transporting goods in or out of their territory and for buying or selling goods or services within their territory. The ORG must inform the BMC of these fees before the BMC enters the ORG's territory.
The BMC agrees to not transport any goods in or out of the ORG's territory that the ORG has forbidden. The ORG must inform the BMC what goods are forbidden before the BMC enters the ORG's territory.
The BMC agrees to not buy or sell any goods or services in the ORG's territory that the ORG has forbidden. The ORG must inform the BMC what goods and services are forbidden before the BMC enters the ORG's territory.
The BMC agrees to leave the ORG's territory whenever the ORG requests them to. The ORG must allow the BMC to leave peacefully if BMC does so within a reasonable time.
The BMC agrees to follow any other regulations the ORG has established for individuals in their territory. The ORG must inform the BMC of these regulations before the BMC enters the ORG's territory.
The BMC may benefit from the ORG's efforts to protect their territory while the BMC is in that territory, but the ORG is not obligated to specifically protect the BMC from outsiders, nor will the ORG be responsible for any damage done by individuals who are not members of the ORG to members of the BMC, their property or goods they are transporting while the BMC is in the ORG's territory. The ORG may provide protection services if they choose, but they are not required by this license.
The BMC is not required to participate in any efforts to protect the ORG or its territory from any attack.
Either BMC or the ORG may end this agreement at any time by informing the other party. If the BMC is in the ORG's territory when the agreement ends, the ORG must allow the BMC to leave peacefully if the BMC does so within a reasonable time.
This license is a non-exclusive agreement. Both the BMC and ORG are free to establish similar agreements with any other organizations.
We all want to be winners. Most games are not designed that way. Deal the cards and somebody gets the winning hand, but everyone else is a loser. Fortunately trading is not that kind of game.
Imagine a miner. He has been working hard and accumulated a lot of metal, but also worn out his drills doing so. Meanwhile a factory owner on another planet has also been busy. She has made many drills, but used up all the metal she had. They each have what the other needs, so they agree to an exchange. Of course owning something does them no good if it is on a different planet, so they hire the Blue Moon Crew to deliver what they bought. The miner gets his drills, the factory owner gets her metal and the Crew gets to go on a nice trip and get paid for it.
Is it really that simple? Sometimes, but most situations are much more complex. Still if we are willing to make the effort, we can find those opportunities that benefit everyone. We can all be winners.

When the game begins we'll be looking for help from other organizations to construct the Blue Moon (our ship). If you are a part of an organization that specializes in construction materials and elements feel free to contact us. I promise we will make your support worth it. We specialize in transport, navigation, and shipment of goods.
In return, we could either pay you back in straight cash, resources or even a certain number of free jobs for a safe, and reliable transportation of goods across the system.

It has been a while since I have posted any concepts for our ship. What I have been doing is trying various modelling software products to see which one I like best. They all work somewhat differently, so it takes some time to learn to use each one. I enjoy doing that, so while it has been fun for me, I have not finished any designs to show you.
Comparing the different products, it seems they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Each one has certain things it does better than the others and things it does not do as well. People are the same way. We all have different skills and abilities. Each member of an organization contributes something different to it.
In case you are not familiar with the Blue Moon Crew, we are an organization with a very specific purpose. We will build, own and operate one ship that will be known as the Blue Moon. We are a partnership where decisions are made by consensus. With that kind of structure, we will need to remain fairly small. We currently have two members, but there is still room for a few more. If the lifestyle of peaceful, independent wanderers appeals to you, let us know what unique qualities you could contribute to the Crew.
It seems natural to refer to an independent ship like the Blue Moon as a lone wolf, but I believe that would be a mistake. A wolf of any kind is simply the wrong sort of creature. Something like a rabbit would be much more appropriate.
A rabbit lives surrounded by predators, but trying to fight them even in defense would be disastrous. Instead, it survives by being small, swift and silent so it can elude its enemies.
This may seem odd to some. They would rather see themselves as the hunter than the hunted, the predator than the prey. They praise those who stand and fight as heroes, while they look down upon those who flee from their enemies as cowards.
Perhaps what should be admired is realistically evaluating the danger one faces and acting accordingly. If you feel that way, you may want to join us in the Blue Moon Crew.

The ship is about 7 meters high and 55 meters in diameter. I do not know if dual contouring will allow a ship that size to have the smooth curves depicted in the image or if the surfaces would be somewhat irregular.
